Holiday celebrations and music festivals are two of the mainstays of summer activities in San Antonio. Events in both of these categories take center stage in July. Mark your calendars now so you don't miss out on all the fun!

Fourth Of July

America's birthday means a weekend of parties and celebrations all around the city. Here are some of the more noteworthy local Independence Day events. If you plan carefully, you just might be able to hit all of them.

  • Amusement parks are a beloved summer tradition in the United States. Celebrate July 4th at Six Flags Fiesta Texas as one of the first to enjoy Batman: The Ride, the world's first 4D free-fly coaster. Other weekend festivities include nightly fireworks and live music.
  • The city's iconic River Walk hosts a Fourth of July Arts & Crafts Show from July 2-5. Enjoy the beautiful mid-summer weather as you browse handmade merchandise including jewelry, pottery and fine art. You're bound to find a piece that will look perfect in your Springs San Antonio apartment home.
  • What better occasion to visit the circus than Independence Day? Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey will be bringing their spectacular new show Legends to San Antonio July 1-5. Mysterious creatures including a unicorn, a Pegasus and a wooly mammoth will be in the center ring along with thrilling performers from around the world.

Balcones Height Jazz Festival

The popular festival has been bringing the best jazz performers to San Antonio for more than 22 years. This year's concerts are set for July 10, 17, 24 and 31 at the outdoor amphitheater at Wonderland of the Americas, located at 4522 Fredericksburg Road.

Grab your blankets and lawn chairs and head out early to stake your spot. Shows begin at 7 p.m. each Friday, rain or shine. David Munoz, host of Sunday Morning Jazz on Q101.9, will be returning for his 20th year as emcee. Food and beverage vendors will be onsite, and you can also get treats at the Food Court in Wonderland of the Americas.
