4 Things to Do in Des Moines and Waukee to Satisfy Your Seafood Cravings

We have come up with a list of seafood hot spots that is sure to keep our community members well-fed and satisfied the rest of this spring and throughout the summer.  We hope you will see a few restaurants here that pique your interest:

  1. Waterfront Seafood Market. Local residents love the atmosphere as much as the high-quality food at Waterfront. Just a 7-mile drive northeast from Springs at Jordan Creek in West Des Moines, Waterfront is a solid choice for fish entrees and sushi. We can recommend the sushi, rock shrimp, mahi mahi, the walleye basket, and New England Clam Chowder. Honestly, diehard seafood lovers just can't go wrong at Waterfront.
  2. Firebirds Wood Fired Grill. Although Firebirds Wood Fired Grill is not primarily a seafood spot, that doesn't mean they don't offer some amazing fish, shrimp and lobster items. Enjoy wood grilled shrimp, coconut shrimp, seared tuna, crab cake, lobster tail, pecan encrusted trout, wood grilled salmon and mahi mahi, along with a cocktail, dessert and so much more during your visit. Just 7-miles from Springs at Waukee in Waukee, you don't want to miss a trip to Firebirds.
  3. Splash Seafood Oyster Bar & Grill. This oyster bar is worth your drive time in exchange for spectacular food and cocktails, excellent service and a hopping atmosphere. Set in the downtown area, it is easy to find things to do in Des Moines to make a night of it at Iowa's first and only oyster bar. Near several movie theaters, shopping centers and the Wells Fargo Arena, you can make an afternoon or evening, ending or starting at Splash. The swordfish, surf & turf specials, grilled jumbo shrimp and the strong mixed drinks are among the many highlights here.
  4. Louie's Wine Drive. Known as much for its amazing wine offerings as its detailed seasonal menu, including one-of-a-kind shrimp and fish items, Louie's Wine Drive has something for anyone in your party. Just west of downtown and near several movie theaters and pubs, you can enjoy spending time exploring the area before or after your unforgettable meal. A few of the highlights from Louie's include the fine wine selection and knowledgeable staff, as well as their champagne fish and chips, sesame crusted tuna, and shrimp and grits.
