These 5 Events Will Add Some Extra Fun to Your Thanksgiving in Chicagoland

Add to your Thanksgiving celebrations by getting out of your apartment home and celebrate with one of these local Chicago events.

1. Thanksgiving Parade
State St, Chicago

The McDonald’s Thanksgiving Parade takes place Thanksgiving morning from 8 to 11 a.m., and it moves down State Street, northbound from Congress. Arrive early if you want to watch the parade live. The best spots for a view are around State and Adams. If you can’t catch the parade in person, tune in to watch it on WGN 9 Chicago.

2. Thanksgiving Admission to the Arboretum
The Morton Arboretum, 4100 Illinois Route 53, Lisle

The picturesque Morton Arboretum is less than half an hour from our Springs at Weber Road apartment community. Always a beautiful pick for a stroll, the arboretum is open free of charge from 7:00 a.m. to sunset on Thanksgiving Day. Walk off some of your dinner with a fun family hike this year.

3. Turkey Trot Chicago
Lincoln Park, Chicago

2017 will mark the 40th Art Van Turkey Trot Chicago. This event includes a 5K, 8K and Plymouth Rock Ramble race for kids. Scheduled for Thanksgiving Day on November 23, this is a popular option for celebrating in a fresh and invigorating way. Before and after the race, you’ll find an assortment of activities including turkey bowling and corn hole. Runners should dress to impress. The best costumed groups of five or more will receive prizes. This event benefits the Greater Chicago Food Depository.

4. Grant Park Turkey Trot 5K
Grant Park, 337 E Randolph St, Chicago

Take a run through gorgeous Grant Park on Saturday, November 25 to burn off those Thanksgiving indulgences. The run benefits Playworks and awards a medal to every finisher. If you need more reasons to participate, consider the free beer, hot cider, and warm gooey cinnamon rolls waiting for you at the finish line. 5. Schaumburg Half Marathon & 5K Turkey Trot
Schaumburg

The Schaumburg Half Marathon & 5K Turkey Trot takes place on November 25, 2017. Registration is open now for this popular annual event. Every finisher gets a bold orange medal, and you’ll find chicken noodle soup waiting to warm you up at the finish line. The run benefits the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America. About 45 minutes from our Springs at Orchard Road community, this run is a great way to fill your Saturday.
