Summer_Fun_Chicagoland.jpgIf you're creative in how you spend your time, you can find a number of free things to do in Chicagoland. In the summer, especially, the communities surrounding Springs at Orchard Road and Springs at Weber Road come alive with fun and interesting events and activities. Here are five events worth attending:

1. Free Family Days at Blackberry Farm
100 S Barnes Rd, Aurora

Blackberry Farm is a gem in Aurora, particularly for those with small children (or grandchildren, nieces and nephews). Each summer the park hosts Free Family Fun Days for Illinois residents on select days—which includes June 22, July 6 and August 3 in 2016. This popular park mixes rides with historical reenactments, but the crowds can get thick in a hurry, so plan on arriving early to get the most out of this family-friendly event.

2. Rhythm on the Riverfront Summer Concert Series
25 E State St, North Aurora

Head to North Aurora Riverfront Park for the free Rhythm on the Riverfront Summer Concert Series, starting June 9. The North Aurora summer concert series starts at 6:30 p.m., but you’ll want to arrive at least 15 minutes early to grab a seat. These concerts are held on the second Thursdays of June, July and August, and food will be available for purchase!

3. North Aurora Days
Various locations in North Aurora

Make your way to North Aurora’s annual summer attraction on Aug. 5-7. Many of the events and attractions will be held at ClockTower Plaza, while the main entertainment stage will be located at the corner of Oak and Randall Road. While you’re enjoying live music, rides, food vendors and parades, don't forget to check out the community-wide garage sales and the Messenger Library book sale. A kid fishing derby, Run for the Riverfront 5K and 10K, and closing ceremony with fireworks close out this entertaining weekend.

4. Movies Under the Stars
1050 W Romeo Rd, Romeoville

Bring your own lawn chair, blanket, and snacks to Deer Park Crossing and enjoy a family-friendly flick with your Romeoville neighbors. Movies Under the Stars features two Friday night showings in 2016: The Minions on June 17, and Finding Nemo on July 15.

5. Rockin' the Ville Summer Concert Series
1050 W Romeo Rd, Romeoville

Romeoville's Rockin' the Ville Summer Concert Series is a great chance to hear some local talent perform. The concerts provide the chance to spend a relaxing time with your friends and family, and the series begins June 9 with music from pop country band Derringer and Rye. The event will be held every other Thursday evening throughout the summer.
